ezs note:  Y'know, Linda, Lucy and I might have some differing views about politics, ethics, et cetera, but one thing which we absolutely agree is this -  violence is wrong.   I ran across a book/pamphlet entitled A Force More Powerful which explains 198 nonviolent means by which people can be persuaded. If you can't find one out of 198 - you're just too freakin' lazy.
