On July 22, 2025, Trump accused former President Barack Obama of treason without presenting evidence regarding the 2016 presidential election. He claimed that "they tried to rig the election, and they got caught. And there should be very severe consequences for that," according to ABC News. A spokesperson for Obama dismissed these claims as "outrageous enough to merit" a response, while stating they would "not normally dignify the constant nonsense" from the White House. This follows an earlier instance where Trump praised Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard for declassifying and releasing information she claimed showed evidence of a "treasonous conspiracy" by top Obama administration officials during the 2016 election.
