As a closeted 15-year-old girl, living in Oregon, my best time for the 440 yard dash is still almost a full second better than the current best Oregon girls' time (converting difference of yards to meters). I wasn't even close to the best boys, either. I'll never know what effect hormone therapy might have had, but I don't know that I'd still think one year of it would have been enough to be fair. It's so complex, and my hope is that these outright bans will be overturned once science has caught up. Certainly, had I blocked my male puberty before it started, I would have had to work much harder to be competitive with the other girls.
