Thanks, Emily, for posting this! Having been born in Arizona 73 years ago, and moving away at 18 months old, I have been subject to their birth certificate laws my whole life. Here, in the state of Washington, I was able to change my name and identification/sex marker on everything else 15 years ago. Now, it looks as though I may have the chance to get my birth certificate changed, as well. I had given up hope, as my health problems disqualify me for surgeries, or even hormone therapy. Of course, none of that is required for me to be the woman I am, but a change on my birth certificate would mean even more to me than my college graduation certificate. Whether I would have it framed or not doesn't matter as much as it would frame me as the person I know myself to be!
