Livin' in Connecticut!

Cheshire, CT

ezs note:  If you live in Central Connecticut, I'd love it if you could take a few minutes to ewrite your state Representative and your state Senator to expand commuter rail between Hartford and  Waterbury.  Just take a few minutes to read the flyer that I wrote, and if you feel so moved, write these people a letter.  Thanks.

Railroad message:

If you live outside of Connecticut, but have a friend who lives here, please tell them.  Once again, thanks.

oops...

ezs note:  I made a slight mistake on the Town Council of West Hartford, CT. The number should be six, not five.  Here is the corrected version:

Town Council (select six)

Shari Cantor (D)
Adrienne Billings-Smith (D)
Carol Blanks (D)
Lee Gold (ACP)
Roni Rodman (ACP)
Ross Jacobs (ACP)

Board of Education

Deb Polun (D)

Mark Merritt (ACP)

Who I'm voting for in West Hartford, CT

ezs note:  Well, it's almost votin' time again, and here are my thoughts.  One thing of note is what  happened to Lee Gold. He switched from the Republican Party to A Connecticut Party.  Really, it's about time.  I don't have any inside information, but my best guess is that he got sick and tired of the increasingly wacko Republicans.  There may be a time when Republicans were halfway sane, but that day is long gone.

A really sad case is that of Mary Fay.  I was somewhat hopeful when she got a Town Council seat, but rather than doing the hard work on the Council,  she tried not once but twice to move up the ladder.  Needless to say, she got squished.  And rather than critiquing Donald Trump, she kissed the jackboots.  Bye, Mary.

Here are my choices:

Town Council (select five)

Shari Cantor (D)
Adrienne Billings-Smith (D)
Carol Blanks (D)
Lee Gold (ACP)
Roni Rodman (ACP)

Board of Education

Deb Polun (D)
Mark Merritt (ACP)

I voted early... DID YOU?????

ezs note: When I filled out my ballot, I was very careful.  I filled out the bubble next to a candidate completely.  I signed and dated the inner envelope.  When your new name is not yet 'official', please use your legal name. In the outer envelope, write in the upper left-hand corner in BLOCK LETTERS your legal name, address, city or town, 2-letter state abbreviation, and ZIP code. Doing this might mean an extra five minutes... but it's worth it.

An open letter to State Senator Derek Slap and State House of Representatives Jillian Gilchrest

nation of Connecticut (if the worst happens)

I am writing to you about a subject I would never have dreamed of. However, Donald Trump currently is our President.

Let us examine the upcoming 2020 race. More and more, Trump is not planning on winning the popular vote. He is not even planning on winning the Electoral College. Rather, he plans on winning by fiat and baldfaced lying.

It is late September, and much remains to occur. However, experience tells us that Trump consistently lies, in matters both small and large. If the worst happens, can we honestly give this cretin a pass? For me, the answer is clearly NO.

Once again, if the worst happens, I urge you to separate Connecticut from the rest of the states. I hope that, in time, the rest of the New England states will do likewise.
I hope that this never happens, and the United States will steer a just, more equitable course.
Sadly, Trump will not allow this to happen.

Holy moly... seriously, I did not that I would bring this blog this far, over this many years...  yet here I am.  Or, far more appropriately, here we are. Gawd, it sounds so, so trite, yet I am truly humbled by this endeavor.

I will bring a bit of transgender news each day from the state, country and world.  Please, do your part and give 'em hell.

My choices for West Hartford

Credit:  http://sparkup.co/blog/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/vote.jpg

After consideration, I made the following choices.  Here goes:

Town Council

Shari Cantor (D)
Dallas Dodge (D)
Mary Fay (R)
Beth Kerrigan (D)
Liam Sweeney (D)
Ben Wenograd* (D)

*my choice for Mayor

Board of Education

Cheryl Greenberg (D)
Deb Polun (D)
Lorna Thompson-Farquharson (D)

Now, some of you may be wondering why I chose to drop Chris Barnes and pick up Mary Fay instead for the sole Republican seat.  I listened to Chris Barnes and I must say I was very nonplussed by what he said.  It was very boilerplate nonsense.  Mary Fay, on the other hand, sounded like a genuine Town Council member.  Plus, the fact that she is a lesbian will mean that LGBT needs will be heard.

I hope that a few people from West Hartford will read what I've written and will consider these matters when voting. However, if you are not from West Hartford, your vote is just as important. Read your papers and watch the League of Women Voters.

And on Tuesday, VOTE.

ezs note:  Oh boy.  Donald Trump - president.  Isn't that just wonderful.

Well, I'll tell you what you do.  You call or e-mail, often.  I don't think that it will matter that much dialing Trump's number - but I do think it will matter a great deal to your representative.  But - ya gotta call.  If you are uncertain who your representative is click www.house.gov and enter your ZIP code.

But - ya gotta call!!

The rest of the ticket

Credit:  http://www.canivote.org/New-Election-Day-2016jpg.gif

So far, I have covered the top of the ticket by selecting Hillary Clinton (D) over Donald Trump
(R), Gary Johnson (L) or Jill Stein (G).  Here is the rest of the ticket.

US Senator
Richard Blumenthal (D) over Dan Carter (R), Richard Lion (L) , or Jeffery Russell (G)

US Representative
John B. Larson (D) over Matthew M. Corey (R) or S. Michael DeRosa (G)

State Senator
Beth Bye (D) over Mark Merritt (R)

State Rep. (18)
Andrew Fleischmann (D) over Rob Levine (R)

State Rep. (19)
Chris Barnes (R) over Derek Slap (D)

In the 20th State Rep. district (Joe Verrengia-D) and the Judge of Probate (Owen Eagan-D) both are unopposed. As far as the Registrar of Voters goes, hell, flip a coin - they both get in.
