\ezs note: Mothers, fathers, and friends of transgender youth - there ARE things you can do to make your kid's life better.
1. Organizations such as PFLAG are there for you. You can check to see where the nearest meeting is by contacting their Web address: www.pflag.org
2. Talk to your children about seeking help. Your child may not have the abilities to winnow out the losers. ("reparative therapy" is a good example) You can pick out the good ones.
3. Talk to your child's teacher(s) in a friendly but FIRM manner that she/he is NOT a freak. If the teacher insists that your child just 'get with the program', suggest that she/he take up welding instead. At least she/he won't be able to harm any more children.
4. If there is no good program in your area, dial 1-800-273-TALK. There are good people there who are willing to help though the distress you are feeling.
I think the word diva has lost its true meaning in today's society. A true diva is someone who delivers the goods at the highest level possible on a consistent basis, whose success is based on hard work and a deep, true talent.
We destroyed and annihilated them (Iraqis) ... We destroyed the infrastructure. We dismantled their abilities to defend against outside invaders. We didn't even do that to Germany in World War II. You don't do that unless your plan is to stay - to occupy.
ezs note: If you are from the Congo, are visiting there on business or pleasure, or just have a penchant for humanity, please contact the Congolese legislature and urge them to vote NO on this anti-LGBT bill. Thanks!
I am using "To Quote A Queer" for your enjoyment, pleasure, and thought. There is one thing that held me back. It's that the quotes range from the very liberal (the late Gore Vidal) to the very conservative (David Brock). It's simply a fact that this will anger some. The only thing I can say to people who hold such views is to read about a month's worth of quotes. What is demonstrated (I hope) is that a full range of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender views will be represented. So enjoy!
The forms in writing... do change, but they change as slowly as the forms in Darwin, whereas the pendulum of tone from one generation to the next keeps moving briskly.
ezs note: It turns out that the story told by the transgender boy is NOT true. I'm sorry about that, and I will pull the previous article. What I wrote in the opinion piece afterward, however, remains true. If you see a transgender person being attacked and/or assaulted, turn them in!
